Rules and Regulations
for SCF Handfastings

The persons within the relationship (and/or coven) who wish to be handfasted must have been in their current relationship for more than 6 months.

Either partner or partners must have no history of unfaithfulness within the relationship, for the duration of the relationship, prior to the handfasting. No matter if this relationship be monogamous, polyamorous, or magickal in nature.
Must go through the preliminary prenuptial handfasting and must be in this relationship for a year and a day before the actual handfasting takes place. This does not pertain to persons outside of the coven or magickal handfastings.

Coven members who wish to be handfasted and whose partner is not a coven member are not required to have the prerequisite  prenuptial handfasting.
All persons who will be handfasted will sign a contract at their handfasting. (For more information refer to the SCF Handfasting Agreement.)

Handfastings

Under the laws of the craft, a handfasting is a witches’ or pagan wedding ritual. This commitment is not a lifetime commitment unless the couple chooses it to be. This does not mean that a handfasting should not be taken seriously, quite the contrary, the vows taken during a handfasting should be taken just as seriously as any other form of marriage vow or even more seriously since the couple will be 'bound' to each by way of blood and word of honor which used to be taken more seriously then it is today. The spiritual bond of this commitment is taken very seriously. A spiritual bond is more serious than a physical bond.

Types of Handfastings We Recognize

Couple - a handfasting between two people who love each other and wish to be married. This may either be a lifetime commitment or set for a period of time as long as the individuals understand that this partnership is equal. (Note: For
Same Sex Couples - This ritual is not considered legal because the laws state that only one man and one woman can constitute a binding legal marriage.)

Polyamorous - a handfasting between more than two people who love each other and wish to be married. This may either be a lifetime commitment or set for a period of time as long as the individuals understand that this partnership is equal. (Note: This ritual is not considered legal because the laws state that only one man and one woman can constitute a binding legal marriage.)

Magickal - a handfasting between magickal partners within the craft. This may be set for a period of time within the coven as long as the individuals understand that this partnership is equal.
